News 2016 Guys the pre season is fast approaching and it's now
time to start thinking about pre season preparation. TJ Pre-season will commence on Sunday January 8th. This seasons pre-season training will be shorter and sharper than last season so we can peak at the business end of the year. We felt that we faded towards the latter part of the season, hence the later start. We have a series of games scheduled for Mid/late January so the games will be on us pretty quickly. The start time for the first session will be 11am. On this day we shall have a 2 hour session followed by a briefing of the pre-season program and a bbq. Look forward to seeing everyone there for what is shaping up to be a huge year with the launching/opening of the new club. Cheers. the weekend he has now hit top 5 goal scorers, Dear supporters, our game v North Caulfield which was scheduled for Monday the 1st August at Kingston City's home ground has now been rescheduled to Peninsula Strikers home ground, McLelland Drive on Sunday the 31st July. 1 & 3 pm kick offs. With this being the only local game on and scheduled veterans cup game v Seaford and top of the table ladies games on, please come down and support all of our teams.
Just a quick update on the club refurbishment /project. Framing is complete and the roof is installed on the extension. External brick façade (mixture of recycled red bricks and glazed coloured bricks) is 95% complete, the colour scheme is the draftsman’s spin of the project, I’m sure this will create much discussion. Door and window frames are installed with the extension at ‘lock up’ stage next week as rough-in of services commence. The weather’s delayed a few tasks, but the builders are hoping to make up time during fitout. Also, the pavilion will now be receiving a PV solar system during the refurbishment! I am also happy to announce that in approximately 12 months, we also hope to have/receive via council a $410K federal government election promise, for woman’s football / club, which will also see further club improvements for all members / players, as we look to expanding Peninsula Strikers FC seeing more teams in 2017. Held on alternate Fridays at the Strikers clubrooms, Frankston Open Mic night is a popular event with local musicians and folk who want to sit and listen to local talent. There is a full backline provided including keyboards so all you need to do is bring your instruments, put your name on the whiteboard and away you go. The open mic night is not limited to musical acts-stand-up comedians, poets and the like are welcome to add their name to the board. Doors open at 7.00pm and the first set is at 8.00 finishing 11.30. The bar is open at club prices, there is a free pool table and you are more than welcome to bring some food along too. Aurora Hall Update As you all would remember, Aurora Hall is a little girl who was diagnosed with brain cancer at 8 months old. Jess and Corey would like to advise Club members and all those who
have assisted the family since her diagnosis, that yesterday Aurora
was given the all clear and at this stage it would appear that after
completing many months of Chemo, Aurora has won the battle. Well done and thank you to all of our members and to those that have assisted, it's a truly wonderful outcome for this little girl and makes me proud to Be President of such a wonderful and caring club. The grant will fund two Female/Junior/Club change rooms as part of the upcoming club refurbishment. Thanks to The Andrews Government, Paul Edbrooke MP, Peta Murphy Labour Candidate for Federal Seat of Dunkley, James Dooley FCC Mayor and long time Football Advocate Cr. Colin Hampton. which now guarantees the club overhaul due to commence in the next few
months. This grant ensures these two new change rooms for the club allowing
the club to grow it’s female participation within our community. A couple of years ago I wrote about Bill Anderson, the
referee from East Kilbride, who was in charge of the tragic Thank you one and all Season Launch - Aurora Charity day Thank you to those of you whom volunteered and worked tirelessly throughout the day, without you, clubs and days like this don't happen. So thank you. To our businesses who donated items for the day thank you so much for your generosity. To all of our members your family and friends on behalf of myself and your committee we thank you, for what was a huge successful and encouraging /uplifting day for Peninsula Strikers FC. Seeing our junior boys and girls at McClelland drive yesterday was sensational the future of the club in years to come. To have our ladies team hit the park again in Peninsula Strikers colours against Skye was a proud moment defeating Skye 3 nil was brilliant, well done girls. Both our senior teams did themselves proud against Mornington and have shown that our seniors are shaping up well pre season to give the league a red hot crack ! Keenan's Peninsula Celebrities at McLelland Drive. There are 3 generations
of well known and respected players who have played for Peninsula Strikers
and clubs from the wider Peninsula area. A special guest has agreed
to join us for the occasion. Please come down and support the club on
this special day. Games are on all day and the All star game v peninsula
celebrities will kick off at 6pm. This Saturday both Senior Mens teams will play Mazenod FC Reserves @ 12 seniors @ 2pm Our Club will be involved in FFA Cup games from the 5th of March – draw yet to be undertaken. Men’s state 2 fixtures are available, with the season commencing 2nd Apr – An away game V Heatherton United. On Saturday 27th Feb we have our season launch, games commence from 9am – 12 with junior games, ladies team 12 – 1, Reserves 1pm, 3pm our seniors will play Mornington, see attached flyer for more info & times @5:30 the Minister for Sport, Mayor of Frankston, and Colin Hampton including others will officially hand over our new training ground a new playing ground and most importantly our new training lights. This will be followed by an all-star team vs our Veterans All-star team to be announced the night before, then the party will start with a band the D’Fibullators commencing at 7:30 until late on the main ground, I’m hoping for a warm night. This is sure to be a fantastic day for you all, bring your friends, kids and grandkids we have something for everyone, come and see what lay ahead for the club, after many years being stagnate. As you will also see I’m also having a charity day for my god
daughters, daughter who was diagnosed at 8 months with brain cancer,
she is now 1. It’s an exciting time for the club after many years seeing our club decay, we will finally see many changes over the next 9 months. The Great news, is that the refurbishment of the club is currently out to Tender & will be awarded towards the end of March. Works will commence in April 2016 with commencement of our 2 new changing rooms on the canteen side of the club. 1st Team – Coaches Craig Lewis / Billy Buchannan – our senior team is shaping up nicely with many return players this season including some strong older heads and promises to be a terrific year on the park, I’m sure you will see some exciting football, for you, our supporters. Reserves Team – Coaches Mark Duff / Graeme (Winker) Watson – after poor numbers last season it appears to be a different case this year with good number turning up to training, I can see many players pushing for 1st team selection, this is great to say the least. A fortnight ago 23 members attended the Summit at Trafalgar for a team bonding weekend & team bond they did. It was fantastic to see our group, bond together with coaches and committee with a clear view and vision for the club in 2016. Veterans – Coach Steve Keenan Manager Clayton Lee – Once again some of our lads have returned to training with the seniors, this is creating an excellent vibe around the club, while we look forward to seeing the lads hit the park again for hopefully a 6th league championship in a row. – Good Luck Lads. Woman’s Team – Coach Marty Moore, Manager Carolyn Askew – I welcome the ladies back to the club, I must say how fantastic it’s to see them back at Peninsula Strikers FC, so welcome back girls. Our ladies will play in State 4 this season and kick off at 11 on a Sunday once the season starts. Marty’s team is continuing to grow in numbers with the team looking to have a terrific season ahead. Please support them they are at fantastic addition to our club. Metro 5 – Coach Dave McKinney – Dave McKinney a Stalwart of Peninsula Strikers who will also undertake Vice Presidents duties in addition to his coaching role this season. His team will commence training in early March on a Thursday night seeing all club teams training on this night, which will be followed by a meal after training and all team selections for the weekend. I believe, for all our players to get to know each other is important for the club & its members. We have a committed group of people doing their best to take the club forward in 2016, I thank them all, and look forward to a fantastic 2016. This year see’s the old Striker Force back in action once again – The Striker Force for those who aren’t aware, is a group of people / members within the club whom volunteer to pay $10 a week to assist with marque players whom the senior coach’s may have trouble retaining due to the wage cap set by the committee. Our Coaches have shown their commitment to the club and have all coaches have agreed to coach without pay this season seeing the entire budget going to retain / pay players (What an outstanding Commitment to say the least) this was their suggestion, and once again shows their commitment to our club) Well Done Gents. Our committee decided to take a different approach this season, without asking for general committee members. This season we are asking for 22 or more volunteers to help out on game day. This means, if you volunteer, and we get the numbers you will only help out 1 home game per season for 3 or 4 hours. I’d like to think that’s a better way to do business. If you would like to help out register you name with Mickey Moore or Trevor Johnson (It’s only 1 day) go on, support your club. Once again I Welcome our golf members to another year almost completed, your support to the club is 1st class and look forward to your continued support in your off season (Our Football Season) bring your friends and support all our teams on game day, I know they appreciate it. A Special thank you to our golfers last month especially (Joe Donaghy & Hubba) who rallied behind our charity along with the rest of the Golf boys raising $260, outstanding gents, Thank you. For those unaware, Ranger social club has returned to Centenary Park this week – good to see you back and welcome. During the off season I have spent many hours with the juniors during their summer training and now preseason and finally see’s the Junior / Senior pathway back on track giving our junior boy & girls a solid pathway for the future. Further to this, I have also join together with Kingston FC to create a further pathway for our male juniors / players. Kingston has offered a scholarship for any male from our club who make their NPL squad. This has also been good for our senior team as well, recruiting a very good Kingston senior player, whom just missed the cut. Further to this, a pathway for girls within the club, juniors / Senior has also been established for ladies / girls who may want to play NPL for Southern United FC. Southern United is a consortium of local clubs who have banded together for this one of to establish and give females on the Peninsula an opportunity to play at a higher level. For me, I am hoping this materialises in coming years to included males, only time will tell. I believe these initiatives above builds a solid foundation for football across the board and only strengthens our club and what we are about. I hope you found the update helpful.
